Oliver Cleveley-Jones

Oliver is a reality architect at Valkyrie Industries where he helps design wearable technologies that expand the immersive experience of VR. With a background in architecture and computer science he is working to simulate the feeling of digital artefacts, letting people touch the virtual.

Touching Realities

Valkyrie Industries have recently finished work on Valkyrie Alpha, a wearable that simulates both weight and touch, and a major milestone on our journey to full-body realistic haptics. Oliver will be talking about this journey, from a prototype built from an Aldi lunchbox two years ago to the smart clothing sleeve of today.

Along the way there have been plenty of mistakes, false-starts and outlandish designs, but virtual reality is still such a nascent technology and there is bundles of room to experiment. Designers are coming to realise that embodiment and affordance are the key to immersion; the spatial qualities of AR/VR are both incredibly intuitive and maddeningly complex, and this talk will go some way to illuminating the challenges posed (and hopefully some solutions!), as well as discussing what it means to be an embodied human in a virtual world.

Communication in the era of cyborgs & algorithms

We live in a time where our ways of communicating have changed dramatically in a very short time. Of course, this will not stop. With all new technology that will be embedded in our society and even in our bodies, we quickly move forward to a world where the outcome is still unknown.

What we do know is that this will open up a world where we will communicate in new ways, this will change how we communicate, offer services and live our day to day both in our physical and virtual life.

We believe that this year’ s Creative Summit will bring you insights that you can use when forecasting how both you and your organization will interact with both your fellow colleagues and clients in the future.
