Lydia Nicholas

Lydia is a digital anthropologist whose work explores data, culture, and how people use new technologies to solve problems and to develop and share knowledge. She spends part of the week in the Futures team at Nesta, the UK's innovation foundation, where she focuses on transparency and justice in the government's use of artificial intelligence, and how citizens and researchers can work together to make better use of health data.

Lydia has also worked with the Wellcome Trust, the BBC, the Science Museum and UK government, exploring how new technologies will affect how we live and work through workshops, research papers, developing future scenarios and science fiction. She is most interested not just in how emerging technologies work but how they change our values and culture, how we can intervene and make conscious, collaborative decisions about the world we want to live in.
