Joyce Kim

Joyce Kim is the Executive Director of, a technology nonprofit based in San Francisco. connects people to low-cost financial services to fight poverty. They envision a prosperous world where everyone can improve their own lives through access to affordable payments, credit, and savings accounts. 

Joyce began her career as an attorney at Sherman & Sterling and Wilmer Hale while also working pro bono at Sanctuary for Families and the Innocence Project. She became CEO of Soompi in 2006 and cofounded simplehoney, a mobile commerce startup, in 2011.

Before co-founding Stellar, Joyce was a VC at Freestyle Capital. She graduated from Cornell University at the age of 19, followed by graduate school at Harvard and Columbia Law School. Joyce is currently a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab.
